The manners of a trouser and the ease of an easy pant, in one piece of sashiko.
A flat, pleated trouser front; an elasticated back for comfort. The weight of black sashiko keeps an above-the-knee length from looking flimsy, so the shorts hold a considered, put-together look.
Shorts with two different faces, front and back.
The front has a flat waistband with belt loops and one deep pleat on either side. A button fly and slanted side pockets carry the look of a trouser straight down to an above-the-knee length.
The back has elastic running the full width of the waist, so it fits the hips without squeezing. Two generous square patch pockets sit on either side, with a single red brand tag on the edge of the right one.
Cut into shorts, the heavyweight sashiko gives the waist and hips a clean, supported shape, and the drape of the cloth deepens the shadow of each pleat. Worn with the jacket as a suit, or with nothing but a T-shirt, the black sashiko becomes the anchor of the outfit.
